Archery Deer Hunting

Our deer hunting takes place on 260 acres of private land plus the surrounding miles of county forest land just 10 minutes from Hayward Wisconsin. Since we bear hunt in this same area we’re able to spend many hours scouting the neighborhood around our day camp. We look for feeding areas, well used trails with good amounts of droppings and, in early fall, active scrapes.

Hunting is done from large comfortable strap-on tree stands that vary from 6 to 15 feet high depending on terrain. Access to the stands is by strap-on climbing ladders. We move stands as often as necessary to stay on the hot scrapes. Early season hunting is generally a sunrise and sunset event with lots of free time during the day (grouse hunting or maybe fishng?) but during the peak of the rut we like to be in the stands for most daylight hours and may use 2 or more stands during the same day. During the midday times while you’re in your stand, I’ll be moving in the area to keep resident deer more active, or we may even try a little rattling.

Our rustic hunting cabin is within walking distance or a short ATV ride from the areas we hunt and is always available during the day in case of bad weather. Your hunt includes early morning continental breakfast and a hearty hot lunch served each day at the cabin.

We can’t guarantee you’ll get a trophy buck, but in 17 years of hunting this area we’ve enjoyed a great success rate with many nice 6, 8, and 10 pointers. Every year we at least get good sightings of several large bucks. All our hunting is by fair chase, (we believe using bait piles to attract deer contributes to CWD and other diseases) but we’ll keep you in the hot areas.

Hunting for seniors, disabled or others unable to use tree stands can be arranged with enough lead time to be able to establish ground blinds or more accessible platforms.
